Andrew Ciarlone, D.O.
Dr. Andrew Ciarlone specializes in joint replacement surgery of the hip, knee and shoulder. He has been a pioneer in outpatient joint replacement and rapid recovery protocols following joint replacement. He developed the “Rapid Hip Recovery” protocol at Crittenton Hospital (now Henry Ford Rochester Hospital) designed for same day discharge home after hip replacement surgery. He was the first surgeon in Michigan to perform Outpatient Hip replacement at a surgery center with “same-day” discharge, at Michigan Institute for Advanced Surgery in Lake Orion, MI. He utilizes minimally invasive surgical techniques including the Direct anterior approach to hip replacement, and a muscle sparing technique for total knee and partial knee replacements known as the “Jiffy Knee”. He is one of only a small percentage of Orthopedic Surgeons nationwide that perform the Direct Anterior Approach Hip Replacement and Jiffy Knee and has performed over 1000 of these procedures.
Dr. Ciarlone also treats sports related injuries and performs arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. He also cares for trauma patients and fractures with both surgical and non surgical treatment.
He attended Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Internship and Orthopedic Surgery Residency through Michigan State University’s Pontiac campus at POH Medical Center. He is currently an Associate Clinic Professor at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Ciarlone enjoys Golf, Skiing and Woodworking in his free time. He is also very busy with his 4 children; Drew, Luciana, Owen and Ben. All of his children are involved in sports activities including lacrosse, basketball and rowing.

Jiffy Knee Replacement

Shoulder Replacement
Dr. Ciarlone is an excellent and caring physician. He did such an excellent job on my reverse shoulder surgery that during my first session with the physical therapist, he said that I was two weeks further along in the recovery process than other patients with similar surgeries.
Jiffy Knee Replacement
I had a full knee replacement on February 6, 2026. On the day of the surgery, I was able to walk up the stairs in my house to reach my bedroom. Within two days, I was using little to no assistance from a walker. I experienced little to no pain, with any discomfort being managed by over-the-counter Tylenol. This experience was far better than I had anticipated, and I was very pleased with the entire process.
Anterior Hip Replacement
I had my left hip replaced, and I highly recommend Dr. Ciarlone. Dr. Ciarlone and the entire team were incredibly professional and kept me informed throughout the entire procedure. Since no muscles were cut, the recovery has been surprisingly painless, and I was back on my feet in no time.
Jiffy knee Replacement
Dr. Ciarlone is the best! I had a total left knee replacement on September 19th 2025 and I'm so happy with my results. My surgery was done as an outpatient and I was up walking the same day with very little pain compared to my right knee replacement which was done over 10 years ago. With my right knee replacement I had to sleep in a recliner because I couldn't even lift my leg to get in the bed however this time I was able to get in and out by myself with no trouble whatsoever. Dr. Ciarlone explained he had a new way of Performing the surgery and the technology has changed since then so this new replacement would be different. As a matter of fact I was in less pain immediately after this surgery which is crazy when you think about it! As of today I'm pretty much back to normal with almost full range of motion and I'll be returning to work on Monday. I highly recommend Dr. Ciarlone because he's not only helped me for years but my husband too.
Reverse Shoulder Replacement
I’ve had both my shoulders done from him and never had one second of pain with either one. He is amazing. He is such a great doctor. I highly recommend him.
